Phuket
Golf Courses
Blue Canyon Country Club Phuket
Designed by: Yoshikazu Kato
Length: 6643 yards from the Blue
Par: 72
Number of Holes: 18
I guess this is one of the most famous courses in Thailand,
having hosted the Johnny Walker with Woods, Els and Faldo
competing. Without doubt it is a world class venue, with the
14th par 3 as daunting a hole as you are likely to find, as
only a perfect shot onto the downhill island green will suffice.
The course is built around an old tin mine so there are plenty
of water hazards and what appear narrow fairways cut from
the jungle, the greens are not too big.. However, unless you
are staying at the hotel you can only play the Gary Player
course, which I haven’t.
I am told that this is now an extremely good test of golf
with lots of water. I look forward to the challenge.
The whole complex is expensive, but if you want a holiday
to include this venue let us know and let’s see what
can be done.

The Phuket country Club
Designed by: Dr. Sukhitti
Length: 6,780 yards from the Blue
Par: 72 + 37
Number of Holes: 18
Some very good holes on this challenging 18-hole golf course
located just outside Phuket. Fine clubhouse which overlooks
the 10th which many players love to play as it is a par 5 that
is possible after a water carry of some 240 yards, (dream on!),
to reach in 1. Silly hole really, as it goes in a semi-circle
around a lake (the former open mine). Busy course, but enjoyable
experience.

Banyan Tree Golf Club & Laguna
Designed by: Max Wexler (front nine only?)
Length: 6,514 yards Par: 72
Number of Holes: 18
Opened in 1993
Fantastic setting for a golf course and although I believe that
the designer underachieved with his design it is most pleasant
and fairly easy. Usually in good condition the club has always
ensured that the caddies are well turned out and smiling, and
the clubhouse and facilities allow you to relax.
There are no specific holes to remember, perhaps the par 3 11th.,
but you will have a pleasing day out and probably flatter your
handicap, good one to start with. |

Thai Muang Beach Golf and Country
Club
Designed by: Pery Dyer
Length: 6,458
Par: 72
Number of Holes: 18
Thai Muang Beach Golf Course is one of Thailand's few links
courses, just. Backed by mountains & forested hills it is
located on the coast of the Andaman Sea. This course is beach
side and provides a few beautiful views from the fairway to
the sea. The undulating fairways are very often topped by elevated
greens surrounded by deep bunkers. The Dye family do not design
bad courses and this is no exception, although it is a shame
that being so close to the sea there are not more holes actually
influenced by the beach apart from the 17th & 18th.
Enjoyable course not so crowded as other Island courses and
worth the drive off the island, but it has had its problem over
the years and best to check that the maintenance is OK before
going.

Loch Palm Golf Club
Designed by: Dr. Sukhitti
Length: 5774 yards
Par: 72
Number of Holes: 18
Opened and reopened a number of times, but now appears firmly
established. Very lovely situation, close to majestic tropical
hills covered by dense vegetation. The fairways surround the
48 acre(20 Hectares) Crystal Lake and its 12-acre sister lake.
Great accuracy is called for from the tee, particularly on the
first, ninth, tenth, twelfth and fourteen, which all dogleg
around the lakes.
Becoming more and more popular, this is a good day out.
