Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi Golf Courses

Nichigo Resort & Country Club

Designed by: Mutsuaki
Length: 3547, 3566, 3657 yards from the Blues
Par: 36
Number of Holes: 27
Opened: 1992

One of the true golfing centers of Thailand, nestled between tropical Hills and the River Kwai. A resort course with many wonderful holes for you all to enjoy, lakes, hills and then more lakes. The scenery is wonderful, enhanced by the quality of the nature and care the staff put into this site.

Whilst the 3 nines are challenging they all offer something for all standard of player to enjoy. Fairways and greens, always in such good condition, are wide with a very good surface to play from. Water and hazards are plentiful but unless you are really having a shocker do not really hinder your game and don’t beat you down. Good test, fair test, great day out.

Clubhouse and Hotel are well worth the visit by themselves, and let your hair down in the karaoke, I did, won a bottle of Champagne and asked not to sing again.

Blue Sapphire

A new course owned as you would expect by a gem company. I have only the report of many golfing friends who all recently played here. High handicappers needed a lot of drinks after playing. Lower handicappers thought it a challenge and also needed a drink or two (they were on a society golf trip!)

All holes have water and looking at the score card it is not easy to find the fairways, exciting but bring along plenty of old balls. Beautiful countryside and clubhouse, course maintenance has suffered a little this past year, however, reports coming in that it is coming back. Course Designer- Mr. Steven C. Youdan and Mr. Art-anan Yomchinda Opened: 2002

River Kwai

Located in Sai Yok, 40 mins away from Kanchanaburi this is another course that offers you a chance to relax and really enjoy your game. To access this venue, you can use the "Cable ferry" to cross the the River Kwai. From the tee-off, you will marvel at a breathtaking views, fairways sometimes need more attention but overall good fun.

Built in 1993

Mission Hills

Ratchaburi, another Nicklaus design in a lovely setting. The drink huts and clubhouse are not so huge as others but have been built with a lot of character. This par 72 course is quite long with some memorable holes not least hole 11, a par 5 with water and 2 fairways, and the par 4, 17 th . with a small island green. Altogether a fabulous setting for a day out on the links and perhaps my favorite Nicklaus course design as there are some holes that are individual to this course! Lately the maintenance has let this layout down and it is best to ask us first before playing.

Royal Ratchaburi Golf Club

Ratchaburi, opened the first 9 in 1994 and 18 months later the second nine. The local golfers rate this as one of the best and we cannot disagree, the two nines are markedly different which makes for more fun with both nines having an abundance of testing and quite excellent holes. I have favorite holes here, on the front nine after a difficult short par 4 over the edge of a quarry there is a drink stop, I take a beer here as I cannot for the life of me play the short 100 yard par 3 no 7 to an ever decreasing island green. The second nine has three exquisite holes that I dread., the index 1 par 4 no 13 which requires an accurate long drive avoiding a push into either the waste bunker or beyond that water or a hook into the trees. The green about 400 yards from the teeing ground is raised and surrounded by bunkers---enough said? Hole 16 is everyone's discussion hole as it has two fairways protected by water, only precise shots will give you a chance to get near the flag on the well protected and small green. The last hole requires only a straight tee shot which is easier said than done as the very narrow fairway is enclosed by jungle on the right and a large number of planted pine and palm trees on the left. There are two greens and depending on the green of the day the second shot is not difficult so long as it isn't after at least three from the tee! The clubhouse is small and modern and lovely with helpful staff to round off a perfect day. This course is a little known gem and if a small of large group want fairly empty spaces even in the high season they should contemplate playing here.

Dragon Hills Ratchaburi

Jim Enge (who?), an American who worked with Nicklaus design, was responsible for producing one of the best layouts in Asia . Usually in wonderful condition this par 72 is an absolute 'must' for golfers of all standard to play when coming to this part of Thailand  Although it is a 1 1/2 hr trip by the end of the day nobody worries and wants to come back. Especial note are holes 10 , 11 , and 12, three holes on the run the like of which your the correspondent hasn't played before. Hole 12 is an island green of rare beauty and difficulty, downhill about 170 yards. Unusually, there are 3 par 3's, 3 par 4's and 3 par 5's on the back nine-no let up! Fine clubhouse and all-round facilities. Year 2002 à 2003 it became a private course and the maintenance suffered, but we are pleased to report that it has regained much of its original splendor, although now, with its new status, there is a higher charge-still well worth while.

Royal Engineers Ratchaburi

Nobody will tell you about this. A shortish course set aside a hill where the clubhouse nestles. Apart from being most inexpensive the staff, all army, are so welcoming and the caddies are all very smart and seem to have excellent knowledge. Some very good holes to be found, not easy and always in very good condition. For the avid golfer a day or two around Ratchaburi to play these courses is a delight.

Evergreen Hills Golf Club & Resort

This is an ideal resort style course, not too difficult but with plenty of water to make the less straight hitter take note. Water is apparent on the 3rd. 4th, 6th and coming back on the 15th, 16th and 17th where it is everywhere.
If you are having a bad day on the course the scenery with the surrounding hills providing a tropical backdrop helping to put your woes out of your mind.

Grand Garden & Golf Club

An under-used course, which is an ideal starter course when on golfing holidays. Usually well maintained this manicured course is set in beautiful countryside. Clever use of water hazards creates an interesting test of golfer’s skills. Four sets of tees make this 'garden' course very enjoyable for all classes of plays. At the par-five 4th, 8th and 12th holes, water hazards do come into play and give you the wake-up call.
Pleasant clubhouse and pleasant service.

I don’t know this personally, but a number of golfing friends have furnished me with conflicting reports. Shortish course with not too many difficult holes but set in lovely tropical countryside close to Burma. Condition varies—hotel on the course.
